:-: THE LAST BURGERS OF 2014 :-:

The past few weekends were a whirlwind.  Getting ready for the holidays was so much work (but in a good way).
I did manage to get in a couple of new burger places before the year end, though.  The likelihood of these being my last burgers of the year are slim, but this will be my last burger post of 2014.

… Good thing it's almost 2015!

Let's start with the bad news first:  Hook Burger

I was getting ready to do some Christmas shopping but decided I needed a little sustenance first, so I Yelped a new burger joint.  I had no idea there was a burger place at Empire Center - much less one with awesome Yelp reviews - but I left feeling underwhelmed.  I was excited that the burgers were decently priced (i.e., a burger, fries and a drink were about the same price as a burger alone at one of my other favorite spots -- you can scroll down for my list).  The burger was juicy, but it needed more flavor, and the meat didn't seem like it was very good quality.
I probably won't be going back.

At least there was some good news:  Steak N Shake

I finished up my Christmas shopping in Santa Monica, and I had seen the "opening soon" sign for this place a few months back, so I was excited that it was open.  I've never been to another Steak 'n Shake, so I can't compare this to one of the originals.  This place has terrible Yelp reviews, so I'm glad I didn't read them first or I may not have bothered giving this place a try.

Is this a burger I'll dream about and tell all my friends they have to try it?  No.
Is this a burger I'd re-purchase in the future?  Yes.

Oh, and they serve milkshakes and wine and beer here, too, but I stuck with good old Cherry Coke.
Just thought you might like to know in case you decide to go.

One last thing:  Hopefully missing things by one day isn't becoming a trend (*knock on wood*) because the day after I went to Santa Monica, Hello Kitty tweeted this:

Ughhh.  I totally missed it.  They look so cute, too!  Just like the little cube plushies Sanrio sold when they had their 40th anniversary pop up trucks.  Did anyone get to try these?  I'm not even sure what they were exactly, but I'm sad I didn't get to try one.  Were they yummy?

The experience was a complete 360 from my last concert - not a bad thing, just different.
For starters, this venue was indoors, so we didn't get rained on.  Yay!

There were lots of pre-concert activities, including photos with props, temporary tattoos, mini McDonald's lattes and swag!  I added an exclamation mark because all of these things were free, which makes everything better!

The venue was really nice.  Oh - and one of the special drinks offered was called a Jelly Donut, which  was Chambord mixed with Bailey's.  It seriously tasted like a jelly donut.  Ridiculousness.

The only thing that would have made this concert better?

Going on Sunday instead of Saturday because that's when Gwen Stefani and No Doubt showed up and performed on stage.  ArghhHHH…one day too early.  One day.

Oh well.  If you ever get a chance to attend an event at The Forum, go for it!

:-: DOG HAUS … WHAAAT ?!? :-:

Did anyone used to listen to 94.9 growing up? Or was the Dog House more of a Bay Area thing? If not, then you probably won't appreciate this blog post title.  Regardless, that's not what this post is about.

Dog Haus was last Friday night's dinner spot.  We went around 8:00pm and there were a good amount of people, but we easily found a place to sit down.

You can order a pre-set menu item and/or pick ANY sausage from their display case and turn it into a corn dog.

Pictured below are the chili cheese tots, holy aoili burger, and cajun andouille corn dog.

The burger was served on hawaiian bread - something different (and yummy!).  The corn dog had a beer batter and it was good, but I still think that the corn dogs at Disney's California Adventure can't be beat.

A close-up of the potentially heart-stopping chili cheeese-y tater tot goodness:

This spot just opened up about five weeks ago, so it's relatively new.  Has anyone been here and tried anything delicious?  I'll probably be back for another visit, so any suggestions are appreciated.

Like that was a surprise.

I could have been patient and maybe Santa would have brought it to me, but that's not how I roll.  Impatience is the name of my game.  And yes - that's a real word.  It's not in the Scrabble dictionary, though.  Sad.

Anyway, I'm so HAPPY because I got my Hello Kitty & Bart cardigan, first shown here.  It has a loose fit, but the material is thick, giving the cardigan just enough structure to not make me look like I'm a little kid trying to wear grown-up clothing.  If you're petite, you know what I mean.

If you're thinking about buying this super awesome cardigan, let me be the devil that whispers, "Do it" in your ear, "You know you want to."  The sleeves are a bit long, but that's easily fixed by scrunching them up or cuffing them.  I prefer sleeves that cover my hands…I can always use a little extra warmth.

:-: FIGARO :-:

Los Feliz is a cute little area to walk around.  It's also where we discovered
Figaro, a lovely little French Bistrot / Boulangerie / Lounge.

We wandered in near 4:00 pm, so we had the option of ordering food from either the brunch or lunch menus and drinks from the happy hour menu.

Now, I'm all about brunch, but I decided I'd switch it up for once in my life and try something different.  I ordered off of the lunch menu [gasp!].  When my food came out, it was a gentle reminder why brunch is a million times better than lunch.   My smoked salmon crepe had fully cooked smoked salmon in it, which I wasn't expecting (I was expecting something more along the lines of this, but with crepe status), so it was a little "meh" for my tastebuds.

Lesson re-learned:  Always stick to brunch when it's an option.

However, there are always exceptions to the rule.  I'm more of a surf-and-turf kind of girl when it comes to ordering food, and I don't like wasting my time on chicken, buuut … M ordered a chicken sandwich from the lunch menu, which was delicious.  It was also drenched in brie, which makes everything taste better.

Yes, this picture is mostly a view of the caesar salad.  I won't lie:  I judged his sandwich before he even tried it and didn't bother taking a good picture of it.  That's what I get for cutting corners.

Dessert was delicious.  MmmMm for chocolate soufflĂ©!

Yes.  More Hello Kitty.  More burgers.  And Bart Simpson (yay for a new addition!)

Hello Kitty and JapanLA have some exclusive 40th anniversary items.
My absolute favorite is one of their newest additions that I want want want.

Hello Kitty & Bart Cardigan

Did I mention that I want this?

Isn't it adorable??  The fit looks pretty oversized, so I'll probably try it on in the store to make sure I don't disappear when I wear it.  I'll post fitting room pics on my Instagram if I get a chance to go this weekend.

I also found some burger socks while I was browsing the JapanLA website, but I found them cheaper on Amazon.  They're already on their way to me!

Sock It To Me Double Double Cheeseburger Socks

They also have a crewcut men's version.  Burger socks for all!

Yes, burgers make me happy even when I'm not eating them :)

:-: L.A. AUTO SHOW :-:

I went to the Los Angeles Auto Show last weekend and was saddened when I realized I couldn't have my precious Fiat because the steering wheel was really high and I had trouble seeing over the dashboard.
Oh well.  The Gucci Fiat isn't even being manufactured anymore, so no biggie.

Gucci Fiat

Guess I'll have to get an Escalade.

Enjoy the pictures!

Thanks for stopping by!

If Hello Kitty Con wasn't your cup of tea and/or you appreciated my posts on
The Walking Dead and Halloween Horror Nights, then brace yourself for this…

General admission tickets start at $45 for one day admission.
Or you can buy a platinum ticket for $1,200.

I bought a platinum ticket!!

Just kidding.  I bought a one day general admission.

The convention isn't being held in L.A., but now you'll have an excuse to visit San Francisco!

I can't wait to dress up as a zombie!  Has anyone been before?  How was it?

The hunt is over.  And I'm beyond full.

Getting all 11 pins felt like a second job, but my Hello Kitty Hungry Hunt was lots of fun!

Hop on board and see what the hunt entailed!  I've rounded the prices for your reference.

Good luck if you're still hunting!

(…and a special thank you to M for standing in line with me for HOURS and getting a couple of pins for me when I couldn't make it in time)
