I'd never had a whiskey flight.  Until last Saturday's trip to Spoonful, that is.

I started with a mint julep.  I tried the non-alcoholic version at Disneyland a while back and didn't like it.  I figured a shot of alcohol and some nice refreshing mint would jazz it up a bit.  I was wrong.  It just tasted like bourbon on ice.

I even tried muddling the mint leaves with my straw, but that didn't help, either.

My recommendation? Go for happy hour and fill up on the buffalo shrimp appetizer - which was tastier than my main course - and try a whiskey flight.

Yelpers say the pecan pie is great, but I'm not really a fan of that type of pie.  The apple bread pudding with vanilla ice cream was really good, but it pales in comparison to another spot in Hollywood that has the best apple pie EVER.  I'll go back there soon and share.

:-: GET YOUR BIB ON! :-:

I like going to the Target shopping center on Santa Monica & La Brea (even though bags aren’t free anymore), but just to pick up food and toiletries.  And sometimes to stop at Starbucks or Ulta or BevMo.  My point is that I've never come here to eat a meal.  I always pass by Hot N Juicy Crawfish but have never bothered to take a look inside.

Turns out it’s just like The Boiling Crab.  Hot N Juicy is definitely good, but it isn’t quite as yummy as Boiling Crab.  I never even thought to look for a Boiling Crab since I moved here.

Anyway, the fact that Hot N Juicy didn't have a 3-hour wait (you know what I mean if you’ve been to Boiling Crab before) was definitely a plus.  And the prices are comparable to Boiling Crab, making it worth a visit (and probably a re-visit).

I thought it would be fun to show a picture of the Hot N Juicy mild shrimp aftermath.  I was very messy, so the bib turned out to be pretty necessary.

Has anyone else eaten at this restaurant before?  I wanted to try the crawfish, but I’ve heard they’re really hard to open and there isn’t much seafood inside.  Let me know :)

Disneyland’s So-Cal Ticket special is almost over…

To take advantage of the $129 2-day (1 park per day) tickets, you have to purchase your tickets by the end of this month and use up your days by June 6th, 2014.

I wanted my outfit to be practical and comfortable, but I wore bright colors to make it more fun.
You can check out my outfit info at the end of this post.

We went last Saturday to avoid the Memorial Day weekend rush, but too many rides were either closed for refurbishment or broken during my visit.

Yes, broken.  I’ve been to Disneyland  too many times to count, but the one time I planned on blogging about it, everything seemed to go wrong.  Flashback to my Arclight post where the speakers popped the one time I wanted to blog about the awesomeness of that movie theatre.

Anyway, I was sitting happy in my Splash Mountain log – about 4 logs from the incline to the drop – when the characters stopped singing and the lights turned on.  Broken.  I’ve always wanted to walk on the side of one of the rides, so at least I got to get off the log and walk on the platform area.

It would’ve been way cooler if this had happened on Pirates of the Caribbean (one of the rides closed for refurbishment that day *tear*), but at least it was something.  And we got fast passes to get back onto a ride later that day.  I’ll just consider it good entertainment value for my blog.

I’ll let you know if anything out of the ordinary happens when we use the second day of our tickets at Disney’s California Adventure.  And this time I’ll check in advance to see what rides are going to be closed for refurbishment before I pick my visiting day.  Can’t do anything about the broken rides, though…

Thanks for recommending Sushi Dan on one of my older blog posts.

Unfortunately, it's no longer there.  Rock N Roll Sushi has taken its place.  We went around 9:00 PM on a Friday night, and it was practically empty.  I think there were more staff members than customers, but it was late and we were hungry, so we stayed.

The sushi here was okay.  I liked their spicy tuna on crispy rice.  I always look for this dish at new sushi places ever since I first tried it at Katsuya.

It looks like there's another Sushi Dan in Studio City, so it's still on my list of places to try.

I'll keep you posted!

If you're not one of the first people in line at The Palace Grill at 5:00 PM, your name will end up on the wait list.  Don't worry, though.  If you don't make the first seating, there's a live jazz band outside to keep you entertained.

Luckily, M and I were the very last couple to make it into the restaurant for the first evening seating.

We started off with the Creole caesar salad and the cutest little mini muffins.  Each muffin was a different flavor, ranging from sweet to salty to spicy.  And they were all delicious.  I seriously considered buying the restaurant's muffin recipe book.  No lie.

Divers' Scallops

Creole Crawfish Crabcakes

Louisiana Bread Pudding Soufflé

There was fun decor, too.

Everyone that worked here was extremely friendly, our water glasses never even came close to being empty, and the staff came around and toasted us as the entire restaurant sang Louis Armstrong's "What a Wonderful World".

It was truly an experience.  I havent't had this much fun at a restaurant since…I can't even remember.  And I wasn't even drinking.  Ha!

:-: MISS ME? :-:

I'm baaaack!  Feels like it's been forever!

I've been bouncing around like a ping pong ball the past two weeks, so I fell behind on my blogging.

Enough excuses.  Let's catch up :)

2 weeks ago:  Santa Barbara

It was a beautiful city, but it was super windy when I visited the beach.  I could see the sand flying sideways, so I kept my distance.  But…I couldn't stay too far away because the Great Food Truck Race was filming!  So exciting!

My favorite food truck fare was a fish taco with fresh mangoes and a panko crusted avocado on top.  MMMmmmm.

The absolute best thing I ate in Santa Barbara was at a New Orleans themed restaurant, but that deserves its own post.  More to come soon.

1 week ago:  Vegas!

"What happens in Vegas…" blah blah blah.

I'm not breaking "the rule" if I'm just sharing a picture of The Linq, the world's largest observation wheel.  Each cabin holds 40 people and I wanted to go, but nighttime tickets are more expensive than daytime tickets.  My friends and I weren't in the mood to dish out $40 per person and still have to share the cabin space with strangers.  Maybe next time.  I bet the lights are really pretty at night.

Yesterday:  Mother's Day

I told myself I'd keep up with the Lush holidays, but I didn't realize how many they celebrated!

Since my mom and I are still using up our Lush Easter goodies, I just picked up a couple of Mother's Day bubble bars.

I think this officially makes me a Lush-aholic.
