Lunch is overrated.  I wish I could just have brunch every day instead.

I was so super excited to go to Blu Jam Café that I didn't mind the wait.  Brunch and waiting usually go hand in hand, so it was expected.

What I didn't expect was a french toast fail.  My crunchy french toast wasn't fluffy, was only kind of crunchy, and the vanilla sauce on the side was just ok.  The bread wasn't soaked long enough in the egg mixture before it was cooked, so it was still pretty dry inside.

I used to practically live off of french toast, so the fact that this completely missed the mark made me sad.

I normally don't write reviews when I try a new place and don't like the food, but I felt compelled to make an exception for this brunch-related issue.

The crunchy french toast had over 400 excellent reviews on Yelp.
Did I just get a messed up order? Is it usually better?  Or is it just over-hyped now?

My french press coffee was delicious, though, and the bacon was good (hard to mess that up), so I'm wondering if I should go back and give it another shot.  Any feedback would be appreciated…

:-: IN A PICKLE? :-:

I went to the Beverly Hills pickle fest on August 3rd.

I got there around 11:00 am, and I thought there was going to be pickles galore, but there was only one pickle stand.  ONE.  One pickle stand does not a festival make.  They should have just said come to our regular weekly farmer's market, watch some people judge a pickle festival, then try some pickles.  Please don't call it a festival.

[Did anyone else go? Were there a lot more pickle stands in the morning?]

I would have gone earlier, but who wants to eat pickles that early?  Not me.

Anyway, they had a free game where you have to try to throw pickle-shaped bean bags into a barrel.  Each person had four chances.  If you got one bean bag in, you won a freshly made pickle.  If you got  three in, you won four pickles.  I won four pickles!!  So exciting!

OK, well I'm getting tired of typing the word 'pickles' so this post is done.  Thanks for reading!

I went to the Rose Bowl and saw Jay Z and Beyonce's On The Run Tour !!!

We went early so that we could go to Picnic in the Park.  It was right outside the entrance gates and had a radio station playing music, free shuffleboard and foosball games to play (but only a couple of each), food and drink available for purchase and fan / water misty areas to keep people from overheating.

It was super hot in the afternoon, but also overcast, so at least we weren't in direct sun.  It was worth going early because we got such a good parking spot.  And it was a great venue…everything was surprisingly very organized and orderly.

But beware, it's an outdoor stadium, and it could rain.  And it did - for the second half of the show.  It  didn't even matter though because the concert was so good! Yay!
